It's that time of year - the kickoff to all that is the holiday season. All the foods. All the drinks. All the parties. All the merriness. All the GLITTER. The city transitions into a full-blown winter wonderland and suddenly we're compelled to trade pumpkin spice for spiced (spiked) cider. It's pretty freaking magical if you ask us, as is our new holiday collection. Leather, sparkle, satin. You name it, it's in there. We met up with fashion blogger & face of our latest campaign, Aly Geppert, for her take on dressing for the season. The skyline views from Brooklyn weren't bad either.
- Tell us a little bit about yourself, what made you start your own blog?
Hi! I'm Aly :) So I think a big part of my personal identity as well as personal style is rooted in the fact that I am California born and bred. I am absolutely a West Coast girl at heart. When I moved out here to NYC, I really started to see my personal style change. Being in the country's epicenter for fashion really inspired me to start my own blog - coming from a place where high-waisted denim short shorts and a crop top were perfectly acceptable year-round, the vibes in New York (plus, actual seasons to dress for) were totally new and fun for me to start playing around with. As my personal style evolved, I decided to start documenting my looks, trends, etc...and the blog was born!
1. How would you describe your personal style?
This is always the toughest question for me to answer succinctly, mostly because I really try to incorporate a little bit of everything into my personal style. Some days I'm super casual and could live in distressed jeans and a t shirt, some days I'm feeling super edgy and Alexander Wang-esque, and occasionally I'm inspired by more girly, feminine pieces. Overall, If I had to sum my personal style up in one sentence, I'd say that it's part boho-luxe, part tomboy casual, and (almost) always sprinkled with something that's a little edgy.
2. How do you usually spend the holidays? Any yearly traditions?
I usually head back West for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday (who doesn't love a holiday dedicated to food?). For Christmas, the traditions are pretty standard. We have a few family parties that we attend every year, but nothing too extravagant or wild.
3. Any tips for holiday dressing?
It really depends so much on how you celebrate, but I personally always find myself going back to the classic "holiday" themes - a little sparkle and usually something red or black. I actually struggle with dressing for holiday events a lot because my personal style is so much edgier and less traditional, I want to make sure when I'm attending parties with extended family or people that I don't know very well and might be less "fashion forward" that I'm being respectful and not calling TOO much attention to myself. Then again, if I'm attending an industry event...it's time to go all out!
4. Any favorite pieces from the new collection? How would you style it/them?
The Paloma Platform heels are to die for - both the black and the glitter! They're seriously perfect with so many different things... dress them down with some boyfriend jeans or leather leggings and a big fur jacket, or dress them up with a LBD or cocktail dress for the perfect holiday party look!
