Let’s Do Coachella

Here’s how to own an epic style moment, effortlessly.
Let’s Do Coachella

Festival season means there are a lot of decisions to make. Not just about conflicting set times and meet-up points, but also style and beauty concerns. You need sunscreen, sunglasses, sundresses. All the sun things. But if you’re headed to the SoCal desert for the annual cultural pilgrimage that is Coachella—and we will see you there if you are—then there are two major issues you need to address above all. One, how will you carry your essentials? And two, what will you have on your feet? Once you get those two things settled, the rest of your packing list will flow like Future.

Your Handbag: Backpack or Crossbody?
This is decision number one, and you really can’t go wrong either way. They’re both hands-free and completely chic. It’s really a matter of personal preference.

If you like your things out of your way, riding on your back, try the Warren backpack in indigo leather to add a bit of color. The Waverly will give you a more classic, luxurious feel in a sleek shade of off-white (aptly called ice). They’re both the perfect size for an all-day adventure—not too big, not too small.

If you’re the type who just wants to carry a few essentials—keys, cash, VIP passes—the crossbody is your festival friend. The Chelsea saddle bag is desert-ready in honey (or you can go for classic black), and surprisingly roomy for its compact size. Test out the embroidered denim trend with the Trigger crossbody in indigo jean. For that ever-effective pop of color, try the Soho Quilted Chain Wallet in citrusy, Cali-perfect grapefruit. Its many card slots and compartments will keep you blissfully organized in the middle of the musical madness.

Your Footwear: Sneakers or Flats?

Only a fool would try to wear heels to a festival. You do not want to
be the girl who needs to sit down in the grass every five seconds lamenting her shoe decision. There are bands to check off your list, tents to sweat in, crowds to weave through. When it comes to Coachella, there are two choices: sneakers or flats. Luckily, we’ve got mad options.

Sneakers are an eternally excellent choice approved by everyone from DJs and rappers to Bon Iver. Yours can either be the focal point of your look (build your whole outfit around the Haley in bright multi) or more of an ode to minimalism (the Haley in white). If you want to add some edge, there’s the Harvey. Its zippers are an homage to punk rock.

Flats are the jam for fashion girls. We like the Maxine, for its understated chicness and toes-free cut. (Choose black to bring a city slickness or natural to pick up on the desert vibe.) Espadrilles are also quite right for the desert, and the Hudson comes with the added benefit of zipper details and a secure ankle strap. Pick silver and gold if you want to go full flash. Slides are perfectly suited for day parties by the pool. Slip on the Ally sandal in rose gold or silver for a dose of heavy metal(s).
